The special issue Thinking Race in International Relations from the Global South explores the critical absence of race in International Relations (IR) studies, highlighting how whiteness underpins foundational concepts like sovereignty, modernity, and power. Edited by scholars from Global South, it critiques the Eurocentric geopolitics of knowledge that often erases Global South perspectives, even in critical literature. The issue aims to foreground decolonial approaches to race, addressing not only Blackness but also Indigeneity, Amefricanity, and other racialized identities, while challenging whiteness as a socially constructed norm. Additionally, it connects racism with ecological crises, proposing theoretical futures to reshape IR through Global South lenses.
